A visit to Mitai-a Maori Village

Upon arriving in Rotorua, New Zealand, our friendly host, Ian, decided we should attend, Mitai, so with our agreement, off he went to book us in.
Visiting Mitai Maori Village included a Hangi (ground cooked meal), a display of ancient warrior canoes (waku) and actual Maori village site and a traditional cultural performance. We also visited the Glow worms and Rainbow Springs afterwards where we got to see a couple of Kiwis, the actual birds that is!

Jet Boat Ride

Yes, here we are all dressed and ready for our Jet Boat ride at Queenstown.

My trip BACK from Milford Sound!!

Well, seeing that helicopter proved too much. How could I possible resist flying back from Milford Sound to Queenstown, especially as the weather had cleared sufficiently and there were the numbers for the flight with a minimum of four required. So I joined the flight with young people and off we went.

At times it felt as though we were going to hit the mountain, but of course swerved just in time!

We were lucky enough to be able to land, just for a short time, but still!!! Who is the one in the red coat giving a strange sort of wave??!!

I was wearing a thermal, a long -sleeved shirt, a thick vest, a woolly jumper and my red coat. No wonder I look a little tubby!!

Wow, the views were spectacular. Imagine this in winter with full snow!!

And back to Queenstown!!

And for those of you who don't want to go in a helicopter, perhaps a trip up in the Sky lift will suffice!!

My Trip to Milford Sound

A trip to Milford Sound is definitely worth the visit even on a wet day, which is the type of day that greeted me. But still, just the bus trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound was in itself rather amazing. Winding through beautiful mountains with our informative guide and competent bus driver, Jamie was great.
Milford Sound is the only fiord that can be accessed by road and is dominated by Mitre Peak (1695m) which rises vertically from the glassy waters below. I cruised through this majestic wonderland with Mitre Peak cruises which I booked through the Queenstown Informtion Centre.

We were even supplied with umbrellas for our short walks through the rainforest.

The harbour where we we accessed our most comfortable ferry. The rain cleared as the cruised progressed and I was able to sit on the top deck to witness these spectacular fiords. They would be amazing on a sunny day, but with the rain, many many rainfalls had appeared and this was was great especially when we were taken under one. Even I raced for cover.

A helicopter?? Now, that would be interesting!!

We even saw some seals lazing around. These were apparently the young males who were here with the 'old ladies' until they were big enough to go to the outer colonies and tackles the males there for the 'young girls'.
