Ewan Bush Races

On Saturday24 September I went up to the Ewan Race Track for their annual racing meet. Why did I go? Well because I was compering the Fashion Parade, of course!!!! Now, Ewan is an interesting place. Each year for up to two weeks, alot of people camp there as it is quite a social occasion especially for those who live on cattle properties. It is a time to catch up with friends and have a relaxing time. Some camp in tents, some take their caravans, but for many who go year after year, they have their own places all set up. Some are tin sheds and some are old timber buildings that they have moved there. Many build fires for cooking and for heating the water for their showers, but I believe some run their own generators.
Racing is the main event, but they have other activities throughout the week including a Ball and fancy dress for the children.

See the grey horse. He/she? looked so cute, I was sure he/she was going to win. But here he/she comes past the winning post - last!! If you look over past the horses you can see part of the campsite.

This is a section of the shed where everyone sets up for the day. The children run around and the adults, well, lots of interesting things happen, but they all have fun, that's for sure. Have a look at the left just above the little cowboy's hat.....( He was so cute!) that's where the stage was where we held the fashion parade.

You can see here that, for some, dressing up is the main part of the day and for others it is just keeping those baby bottles at the ready. The hessian set-up is where the models changed into their outfits. One young model who was doing this for the first time nearly had a heart attack when she saw it, but nobody could see in- it was all OK!!!

As I said, dressing up is the main part for some and this group was having a great time all dressed up in their 60's or is it 70's gear.
Bush Races- a Great Australian Tradition!!!
